Philanthropy is an important part of membership in Alpha Gamma Delta. There are many ways AGDs are charitable with their time and energy. Annual participation in fund raisers for local London charities, and larger projects for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation requires that Zeta Chi members spend countless hours together at work. Since being together usually means lots of FUN and LAUGHS, working hard is a pleasure! To find out more about where our fundraising dollars go, read on!

ALPHA GAMMA DELTA FOUNDATION
The official philanthropy of Alpha Gamma Delta is the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. It is a charitable trust run by appointed members of the Fraternity. From these funds, numerous undergraduate and graduate student scholarships are offered. Juvenile Diabetes research and summer camps are funded from this Trust. Furthermore, special programs such as Leadership training and Sister Income Supplement (SIS) are also supported from the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation.

JUVENILE DIABETES FOUNDATION
JDFAlpha Gamma Delta was the first women's fraternity to declare an official philanthropy: the Alpha Gamma Delta Camp for underpriviledged children opened in 1919. It was later closed in 1947 but the focus on children has not been forgotten. Since 1979, Alpha Gams pledge their time, energy and donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Juvenile diabetes is also known as Type I diabetes mellitus, or insulin-dependent diabetes. It most commonly afflicts patients in their pre-adolescent youth. It arises as an autoimmune disease. For reasons that biomedical researchers are still unsure of, the child's own immune system thinks that the islet cells of the pancreas are foreign and fight against them as if they were a bacteria or virus.

Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation supports new research to find a cure for JDF. There are also special camperships which the Trust funds. Each year, the Foundation donates money to unique camps for young diabetics who can't afford to go. At camp, the children learn about their disease, learn to cope with injecting their insulin independently, but mostly have summer fun and play camping games like normal children.

DOUBLE VISION
Founded in 1988, Double Vision is a project funded by both Alpha Gamma Delta and Lambda Chi Alpha Men's Fraternity. Wherever these two Greek groups share a campus, the Alpha Gams and Lambda Chi's plan seminars and discussions about issues relevent on today's campuses. Issues such as the abuse of alcohol and other substances, date rape, hazing and more are discussed in an upfront, open and sincere manner. The members perform skits and break into small groups. It is an opportunity for honesty and sharing. It is usually very funny and enlightening. Our Zeta Chi members always look forward to the annual event with the men of Delta Eta!

This picture was taken Fall 1995 at the annual Terry Fox Run for Cancer which takes place across Canada in September. Here, Alpha Gams pose with JW, UWO's Mustang mascot. AGD had the best representation of all Greeks for this Philanthropic event!
